The Beast

welcome. well, sxsw is a BEAST. yes indeed. for film aficionados looking for some suggestions my picks for friday, march 13th are as follows;

strongman is a documentary of "will power and perseverance," or a really strong guy aging. showing @ 6:30 p.m alamo lamar 2.

awaydays is a narrative about psuedo androgynous 80's teen angst, sounds trite, but looks good. showing @ 6:45 p.m. alamo ritz 2.

the 2 bobs is showcasing its world premiere at sxsw and is a narrative. geeky action, mystery, techie, local goodness. "...violent video game masterpiece" appears in the films synopsis. showing @ 6:45 p.m. austin convention center.

new world order is also holding its world premiere as a documentary here in austin. conspiracy theorists can be blowhards, but luke meyer the director is the same director that brought us darkon, very entertaining stuff. i don't expect anything less from mr. meyer with this one, especially with local austin celebrity and everything secretive buff, alex jones, as the main subject of documentation. i willl be viewing this one personally. showing @ 7 p.m. alamo ritz 1.

the square is a narrative having its world premiere also. seems noir, tarantinoish, with a twist of lolita, but it looks entertaining. showing @ 7 p.m. alamo lamar 1.

medicine for melancholy is a hipster, cool bike (fixie or possibly single speed with a brake?) lack of visceral love story. one for the times, especially for austin. showing only @ 9 p.m. hideout.

blood trail is having its north american premiere here at sxsw. the documentary follows robert king and is a film that tracks "him over 15 years and through three wars." nuff said. showing @ 9:30 p.m. austin convention center.

"ex-terminators...a dental technician with the face of an angel and the mind of a sociopath." Oh, and the characters "wreak havoc on the men of texas" in this narratives world premiere. showing @ 10 p.m. paramount.

"lake mungo is a mystery, a thriller and a ghost story weaved into a 'documentary'..." could be blair witch like, but i hope not. showing @ 11:30 p.m. alamo ritz 2.

ong bak 2 is a fantastic fest title, wonderful. kick-ass action, "explosives, magic spells," and i'm sure tht's not all coming from this camp of filmmakers. showing @ 11:59 p.m. alamo lamar 1.

zift is the effort of a very prominent bulgarian playwright, black and white and a "neo-noir murder mystery." javor gardev's full length feature debut. showing @11:59 p.m. alamo ritz 1.

all times subject to change (by sxsw, not me), check your firearms at the door, gear up and prepare. most of these films highlighted show more than the time listed unless otherwise specified. Go to the SXSW listing.
